Education Data Matters - March 2015

Post-16 LPUK Datadashboard:

We’re pleased to announce that the Spring update is now live!

Did you know…

The Post-16 LPUK Datadashboard Spring Update, including summer 2014 validated national KS5 and L3VA data, is now available online.

Here is an overview of the latest updates based on both feedback from our subscribers and new data available to us:

For Local Authorities and strategic groups:

1.   We have enhanced the headline measures table to include:

-     The ability to compare your LA’s position with others nationally by colouring

the cells based on the quintile position of your LA

-     The number of full-time equivalent students (FTE) included in each of the APS measures.

-     The APE expressed as a fine grade as well as a score.

-     Data on students’ progress in English and maths from statistical first release published by the Department for Education. Please note, the aggregated LA level figures are based on data supressed at a centre level, due to small numbers. Please treat these statistics with caution.

2.  We now also include 3-year trends for some of the headline measures, including the average KS4 points on entry, overall retention, L3VA value added measures and average points scores.

3.  We now present two types of L3VA: the Headline Measures L3VA and Qualification Type L3VA.

-    The Headline Measures L3VA is shown in the Headline Measures table and the Centre L3VA charts and includes A Level, academic and vocational progress measures as shown in the Performance Tables. Please click here for a list of qualifications included in each measure.

-    The Qualification Type L3VA includes value added for each qualification type, i.e. A Levels only, AS Levels, BTEC Diploma, BTEC Certificate etc.

Big Numbers:

The Department for Education (DfE) have recently released their experimental statistics on the destinations for KS4 and KS5 students [1]. The data show the students’ activity in the year after A Levels or other Level 3 qualifications. The data are available on various levels, including local authority, national and institution levels.

For the third year in a row, we have looked at KS5 destinations across regions, comparing the percentages of young people going either to education destinations or to employment and/or training destinations.  Take a look at our Big Numbers.
