Blog and Big Numbers for April – Gender Gap from 2012 to 2013
In this month's blog we revisit our Big Numbers from June 2013 which looked at the gender gap in performance in 2012 at KS2, KS4, KS5 and also looked at the gender gap in the percentage of young people who were NEETs. We have updated the analysis with 2013 data, added a measure showing the number of university applications and examined changes in the gender gap between the two years.
The data shows a small increase in the gender gap between 2012 and 2013 across most key stages. Girls are still outperforming boys in each measure, as well as outnumbering boys in university applications; on the other hand, a higher percentage of 16-24-year old girls are classified NEETs, although this gap is less than in 2012.
