A level and other level 3 results, England 2012 to 2013 (revised)

  • Provides revised level 3 qualifications results of 16 to 18-year olds in England.
  • In addition to the overall achievement measures for students across all level 3 qualifications, the release shows achievement separately for 3 cohorts of students: A level, academic and vocational.
  • It shows more students entering for at least one level 3 qualification (at least the size of A level) than in previous years, but the proportion of A*/A grades continues to decline second year in a row.

GCSE and equivalent results in England, 2012 to 2013 (revised)

  • Provides updated information on the overall achievements of young people in GCSE examinations and equivalents.
  • The release provides the overview of school floor standards, pupils achieving A* grades in GCSEs and attainment of pupils grouped by prior attainment band.
  • The analysis shows decline in the percentage of pupils achieving 5+ A-C GCSEs including English and mathematics nationally but an increase in state-funded schools only. It also reveals an increase in the percentage of pupils achieving EBacc.

  • Provides revised data on key stage (KS) 4 attainment by pupil characteristics, including gender, ethnicity, English as a first language (EAL), eligibility for free school meals (FSM), disadvantage, special educational needs (SEN) and Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index (IDACI).
  • The analysis shows that more girls than boys achieve 5+ A*-C GCSEs including English and mathematics.

  • Provides information on the achievements of pupils at KS4 and comparison to other schools in their local authority area and in England and to similar schools.
  • Include a number of measures, such as the attainment of pupils at the end of KS4, KS2 to KS4 progress in English and mathematics, closing the gap and performance grouped by prior attainment, EAL and gender.
  • Also present data on school finance, workforce, characteristics and Ofsted inspection outcomes.

  • Provide information on the attainment of 16 to 18-year old students at the end of KS5 in secondary schools and further education sector colleges in the academic year 2012 to 2013.

  • For the first time, performance measures are split into three separate cohorts: A level, academic and vocational.

  • Provides main findings of the parents survey on childcare and early years including up-to-date information on parents’ childcare arrangements, their views of specific childcare providers and on childcare provision in general.

  • This is an update to the experimental statistics release from last summer.
  • For the first time, the destinations are grouped by student characteristics, including gender, ethnicity, free school meals, special educational needs (SEN) and learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LDD).

  • Skills Funding Agency and Department for Business, Innovation & Skills, Statistical First Release published by The Data Service.
  • Provides data on adult further education and apprenticeships in England, between 2008 to 2009 and 2012 to 2013, including success rates
  • Data on adult further education includes students older than 19 in government-funded institutions, excluding schools and higher education; apprenticeships data cover all ages (16+).

Ofsted Subsidiary guidance supporting the inspection of maintained schools and academies

  • Includes guidance for inspectors to use during section 5 inspections and is an update of the guidance document from September 2013
  • There are several changes from the previous version including:
  • More emphasis to be put on behaviour, including at breaks and lunchtime. There will still be an overall judgement on behaviour and safety, but there will now also be separate judgements for behaviour and for safety.
  • New expectation of students to undertake spiritual, moral social and cultural development, such as taking part in volunteering.
  • No crucial need for data over 3 years but inspectors balance evidence about previous cohorts of pupils with evidence about the progress by the pupils being taught in the school currently.
